What are your goals? What do you want to achieve?
Think about your aims and ambitions, what do you want to achieve in your career?
You will have thought about this and captured your thinking in Worksheet 1.
Refresh your memory of what you put there and then select what is the most important thing for you? Imagine yourself in the future looking back at your life:
- What would you like to be remembered for in your career?
- What are the goals you want to set yourself?
- Where do you want to be in terms of your job in five, ten, fifteen years’ time?
- What will make you proud to have achieved?
This is an important idea as it will set the tone for the rest of your definition. You need to know what you are trying to achieve if you are going to establish the right way to get there. It doesn’t mean that you can’t change direction in the future, you can but in order to get on the right road now you need to be clear about your desired destination. Remember that to have a chance of making your ultimate dreams come true you may need to break them down and create short- and long-term goals.
Your Vision should be short – ideally less than 15 words. You are less likely to have a focused, clear thought if you write a lot.
Write it down and then look at it hard – is that right? Is that really what I want?
You will be able to craft your words later, what is important here is that you get the overall ‘idea’ right.
